| From: FlyMOM51@aol.com To: TNbuckaroo@hotmail.com Subject: Boca El Gym Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2002 19:11:32 EST Kathy, OK, here is the deal: The gym will NOT be demolished on Feb 19...the School district is willing to deed the gym to the city for a specified period of to give US time to raise money. The city is supporting us in this effort. We need to raise approximately $500,000 by Sept 1 and we believe $250,000 in the next 3 months. This shows commitment and good faith. There is more involved and this will be discussed in the next coming weeks. So far we have raised $20,000...but we need MORE! And we are going to need help...lots of it. Do you know any one else who would like to be a part of this, willing to donate time, MONEY, ideas, and work-jobs-repairs to this effort? We are planning a Sock Hop as our first kick off fund raiser. We will be asking for items for an auction and items to be used at the party. Are there others in Boca that you went to school with that I might have missed? Suggestions, Of any kind? We have a booth for Meet Me Down Town, March 2-3, and will be begging for dollars, have stuff to raffle off, and are trying to write a pamphlet about the gym to sell. We have some great old photos too. You have no idea how committed Diane, me and Arlene are to saving this building. | Hi Gary. I'm sure you recognize my name from past posts and visits on here. Don't know if it was you or Kathy that picked up the obituary from the Boca News on my mom [Norma Sidewand], but I sincerely thank you. My mom was the orginal Data Processor (65-72) and then joined the library staff until her retirement in '83. She loved her time there and we used to talk about all the students she knew. In fact, I had taken her to this site a few months ago and showed her the pictures of all the grown up Bobcats. My sister, wife, niece and I were with her at the end and I know she took comfort in that. She was a very bright, funny lady. Again, thanks for remembering her. She's ALWAYS keeping an eye out down there for me for news, whether good or bad, but Lin's always there. I think it's important for everyone to know that being a Bobcat isn't just limited to student alumni. Faculty and staff are true Bobcats too. I'm sorry for your loss and I wanted to let you know that our thoughts are with you during this sad occasion. Your mother will be missed. Gary |
